Meet Stephanie, Our New Case Manager
Stephanie Jones joined Calvary Women’s Services last month as a full-time case manager who works directly with the women living at Calvary. Prior to coming to Calvary, Stephanie spent 10 years working at Green Door, an organization that provides services for individuals in DC living with mental illness. She has also worked at The Arc of DC and Volunteers of America. Stephanie holds a degree in business administration but started her career in social services nearly 20 years ago. We are very pleased to welcome Stephanie to Calvary’s clinical team!
How did you hear about Calvary and what motivated you to apply for the job?
I heard about this job from a program manager at Calvary who I know. The job sounded really rewarding and it fit into something that I’ve always wanted to do, which is work with women. What do you enjoy about working specifically with women?
I think that being a woman allows more relating to happen when I’m talking with clients. Since I am a woman, I understand more of the challenges that they might be dealing with, and that makes it easier for them. One of the most rewarding parts of this job is making people feel better about themselves after they have gone through long struggles with low self-esteem and a lot of negative emotions. Being in this field has taught me that we’re all equal and we all have some type of struggle.
Is there anything about Calvary that has surprised you since you started working here?
There haven’t been any big surprises, but I have enjoyed a different kind of energy here, both from clients and staff. It’s very positive and I feel appreciated. Everyone supports each other.Share an impactful experience that you’ve had with a resident.
One client came to Calvary and was very guarded. We were both new here so it felt kind of like “the blind leading the blind.” I wasn’t sure what our relationship would be like at first, but she opened up one day. She just started a full-time job and when she told me about it, I was just so excited for her. Calvary gives women hope and a safe place. This place feels like home to women, and I love that.Share a few fun facts about yourself!
I grew up in South Carolina and try to get back there as often as I can. I used to drive a school bus and still have a commercial driver’s license. When I first moved to DC, I tried to get a job with Metro. Looking back, I’m pretty glad that it didn’t work out!
