Volunteer Spotlight: Jasmine Levy
Jasmine Levy is one of many University of Maryland students who volunteer their time at Calvary. She first learned about Calvary through the “Terps for Change” program that links students with community service opportunities. Oftentimes UMD students come to Calvary in small groups, but Jasmine took her involvement a step further when she started staying overnight on a monthly basis. Jasmine is a caring and consistent overnight volunteer who manages to make time in the midst of her busy summer schedule. We are happy to showcase her in this month’s Volunteer Spotlight!
Where are you from?
I was born in North Carolina. My family settled in Maryland when I was eight, and that’s what I call home.
Share a fun fact about yourself!
I’m currently in training to become an early childhood teacher so I’m spending my days teaching at a DCPS elementary school this summer!
Why do you volunteer at Calvary?
I volunteer at Calvary because I like being able to do something meaningful in the community.
What do you like best about your work with Calvary?
What I like best about volunteering is just freeing up resources for Calvary to do more great things in the community and with women in the programs.
If you had to choose one word to describe Calvary, what would it be?
One word I would use to describe Calvary is ‘active’. Providing residents with job skills, training and resources is a wonderful example of Calvary’s active role in changing D.C. and working toward individual and community success.
