Calvary Women’s Services Commended for Excellence in Nonprofit Management

Calvary Women’s Services was recognized today by the Center for Nonprofit Advancement as an honorable mention winner of The Washington Post Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management. As an award finalist, Calvary receives a $2,500 grant to support its housing programs and comprehensive support services for homeless women in Washington.

The Washington Post Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management is a competitive program open to nonprofit organizations in the Washington metropolitan area. Finalists are recognized for exceptional leadership in the areas of fiscal management, communication, organizational and resource development, planning, human resources, risk management, diversity/inclusiveness and evaluation and use of technology.

“We are proud to be selected by the Center for Nonprofit Advancement as a finalist for The Washington Post Award, and we congratulate Sitar Arts Center on their accomplishment,” said Kris Thompson, Calvary’s executive director. “At Calvary we strive for excellence in everything that we do. Our mission – to provide women with a safe, caring place for tonight and support, hope and change for tomorrow – is driven not just by what we do but the manner in which we do it.”

Last year Calvary’s board of directors received the Center for Nonprofit Advancement’s 2014 Board Leadership Award. The award recognizes the role that boards play in building and sustaining successful organizations, assuring that they are well-led, well-supported and responsive to the people and communities they serve.
