Calvary Women’s Services Joins Organizations around the World for Day of Giving
Calvary Women’s Services yesterday participated along with thousands of organizations around the world in the third #GivingTuesday. Calvary raised more than $7,200 on the day of giving. A group of Calvary Captains – made up of board members, volunteers, donors and staff – drove fundraising efforts by actively promoting the event through social media and other channels.
A group of organizers led by 92nd Street Y (92Y) founded #GivingTuesday in 2012 as a global day dedicated to giving back at the start of the holiday season. #GivingTuesday inspires people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities and give back to the charities and causes they celebrate. This year more than 18,000 charities, nonprofit organizations, schools and businesses around the world participated.
“The money raised on #GivingTuesday will directly support Calvary’s housing, health, employment and education programs, and will positively impact the lives of hundreds of women. We are incredibly grateful for the efforts of Calvary Captains and everyone who donates to Calvary throughout the holiday season,” said Calvary’s executive director Kris Thompson.
Calvary was one of many organizations in DC that participated in the Catalogue for Philanthropy: Greater Washington’s dedicated #GivingTuesday campaign, which encouraged giving within the region. The Catalogue identifies and promotes the best community-based charities in DC and nearby Maryland and Virginia.
Donations to Calvary’s #GivingTuesday page can be made through Dec. 31, 2014. Visit http://bit.ly/calvary_givingtues to make a donation.
