Calvary Captain Countdown – 12 Days Until the Walkathon!

This week for the Countdown, we’re bringing you the stories of two Captains that have more in common than their enthusiasm for the Walkathon – they’re also sisters! First up is Liz Bolton:

Liz (far right) with sister Katie (in the hat) at a past Walkathon!

This November marks Liz’s 7th year participating in the Walkathon. Why has she walked for so many years now? “Because I love Calvary and the Walkathon! I’m heartbroken to hear it won’t be on the Mall anymore, so my goal is to recruit all my past walk friends for one last hurrah. And of course to support Calvary in this critical year.”

“I started overnight volunteering when I was in grad school for women’s studies. I wanted to do something tangible for women instead of just talking about it.” … and Liz has been a dedicated volunteer ever since!

Besides being a phenomenal overnight volunteer, Liz has some other unusual talents: “according to email lore, it is impossible to lick your elbow, but I can do it!”

Liz also helped out by helping to organize a mini-walk at her office – the AAUW mini-walk raised over $800 for Calvary’s programs and added 20 more walkers towards our walker grand total. If we reach 550 walkers, Calvary receives a $10,000 bonus grant from Fannie Mae. You could be the walker to put us over the top! Sign up here: www.helpthehomelessdc.org/goto/calvary
