A Statement from Calvary Women’s Services on Marion Barry Avenue Explosion
On the morning of January 18th, there was an explosion on Marion Barry Avenue in the building next door to our Good Hope program site. All Calvary residents and staff had safely evacuated the Good Hope building before the explosion, thanks to the swift actions of emergency personnel and our staff.
Our number one priority is to ensure the continued safety and well-being of Calvary residents and staff. We will be working with our community partners to meet the needs of women in our program until we are able to resume building operations.
We extend a heartfelt thanks to the emergency personnel whose swift actions saved lives today and who are bravely working to extinguish the fire. Thank you also to the Calvary staff who are ensuring women in our program have a safe, warm place to sleep tonight. Our thoughts are with the individual injured by this explosion and the neighboring businesses that have been impacted by this event.
