Volunteer Spotlight: Emma Voiles

This summer at Calvary Women’s Services we are fortunate to have another intern join us from the University of Colorado Boulder. Originally from Denver, Emma Voiles is serving as our Community Engagement Intern. She is preparing to enter her fourth year as a political science major.

As the fall semester approaches and Emma’s time with us draws to a close, we took a moment to speak with her about the different kinds of work she’s been involved with at Calvary.

How would you describe your role at Calvary?

As the Community Engagement Intern, I get to coordinate the volunteer schedule and make sure that volunteer operations are running smoothly. I also work the front desk and get to help out with a variety of other tasks such as helping set up classrooms for the education program facilitators and working at fundraising events.

Why did you choose to get involved at Calvary?

When looking for summer internships, I knew I wanted to do something that was beneficial for a community and something that empowered women. My school’s program, CU in DC, referred me to Calvary and thankfully I got the internship!

What has been your favorite experience at Calvary?

Every day there is a new reason why I am grateful to be interning at Calvary! From friendly conversations with the women, to helping with Cocktails for Calvary events, there are many favorites. The small moments like getting to know the women while I’m working at the front desk are the most special to me.

What would you tell someone who is considering volunteering at Calvary?

It is an amazing experience! The sense of community and hope at Calvary are so beautiful and inspiring. There are many tasks and projects to help with. The staff is supportive and organized, and they’ll make sure you have everything you need to succeed. Especially for interns, Calvary offers an incredible opportunity to learn and do meaningful work.
