Good Hope Reopening Update: Construction is Underway
In January, an explosion next to Calvary Women’s Services’ main site, Good Hope transitional housing program, caused significant damage to our building and forced us to temporarily close its doors. We’re thrilled to share some exciting updates on the recent construction and renovation efforts happening at Calvary!
Thanks to the incredible work of partner, DAVIS Construction, we’re making considerable strides in transforming our space to welcome more women home!
One of the major projects we’ve undertaken is the installation of new drywall throughout the entire building. The lower third of a majority of the walls were removed due to water damage. Several staff offices were gutted completely due to flooding that occurred.
The basement floor hosts the main hub of activity at Good Hope, boasting a large communal space that accommodates our education and employment programs. This is where we also have offices for our case managers and essential staff – such as our therapists and nurse – to ensure women have on-site access to vital services.
The level is being transformed into a vibrant and welcoming area for staff and clients, with new walls constructed between each office space. Alongside the drywall installation in the basement, we’ve refreshed the offices with a new coat of paint.
On the first and second levels, the installation of new floors and windows in residents’ rooms adds brightness to the building as we prepare to reopen Good Hope’s doors later this summer. Bedrooms are being outfitted with new furniture, becoming a place where women can rest, rejuvenate, and focus on transforming their lives.
As we continue to make progress, we are looking forward to the possibilities that these changes bring. Our goal is to refresh our signature site to meet the needs of the women in our programs, including welcoming 45 women home this summer.
Karen Davis, a Case Manager at Calvary, recently saw her office for the first time since it was gutted, and her excitement was palpable.
“I just felt so overwhelmed, because we were displaced along with our clients,” Karen explained. “I’m ready to get back in and start working [from my office] again!”
We look forward to sharing more about our work to reopen at our Good Hope Grand Reopening Celebration and in the coming weeks. You can support our mission as we prepare to welcome more women home in our refreshed building by donating here.
