Volunteer Spotlight: Eurice Moore

As a part of our holistic care model, Calvary is dedicated to ensuring the women we serve have access to warm and nutritious meals so that they are in the best position to focus on rebuilding their lives. Our meal volunteers are an essential part of that mission, providing meals for the women at Calvary on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Eurice Moore has been a meal volunteer at Calvary Women’s Services since 2020. Once a month, she arrives at Reach Up, one of Calvary’s transitional housing program sites, with a freshly prepared and delicious meal for the women at Calvary to enjoy.

“Eurice’s passion for serving the women is awe-inspiring, and she has truly connected with the Calvary community through her different volunteer roles,” said Director of Volunteers and Community Engagement, Stacia N. Frederick.

We sat down with Eurice to discuss how she was inspired to join the Calvary community and hear why she finds it rewarding to be a meal volunteer. The following Q&A has been adapted from our conversation.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I am an art teacher part-time. I love people, sharing life, inspiring, and encouraging others.

How did you first get involved with Calvary? What inspired you to volunteer?

I love doing whatever I can to make life easier or better for someone else. I first began volunteering at Calvary several years ago as an overnight volunteer, providing safety and support to the women. I then took a break and returned in 2020 as a meal volunteer.

Why were you interested in the meal volunteer role? What do you like about the role?

I love cooking for others and being a meal volunteer allows me to share my cooking with so many. I like to encourage and introduce everyone to healthy and delicious meals.

What is your favorite dish to prepare and share at Calvary?

I love to cook Cornish hens! I try to make sure every meal I prepare is good and healthy.

Do you have any other volunteer roles at Calvary?

I also occasionally host a movie night or something similar with the women. Most recently, we watched the movie, Loving, together.

What has been your favorite experience volunteering at Calvary so far?

I loved making and gifting scarves to the women at Calvary for Christmas in 2021.
