Calvary Women’s Services to Honor Michele Lawrence Jawando with Hope Award at 2022 Hope Awards Dinner

Calvary Women’s Services’ Hope Awards Dinner brings together community and business leaders and to celebrate the success of women changing their lives through our programs. We’ve done it for more than 20 years, and this year is no different. We are back in person this year and hope you will join us on May 18 for a fun and inspirational evening celebrating women who are achieving their goals and making lasting changes in their lives.

Calvary is honored to recognize Michele Lawrence Jawando with this year’s Hope Award. The Hope Award is presented annually to a local leader who offers hope and empowerment to people in need. Michele is being recognized this evening for her audacious and far-reaching vision and for her commitment to bringing that vision to life.

Michele currently serves as the vice president of programs at Omidyar Network. In that role she oversees the program teams’ global mission as Omidyar Network works to tackle the biggest, most intractable challenges facing the planet in the decades ahead.

Prior to her current role, Michele served as the head of strategic engagement and public policy at Google, where she helped to direct over $80 million in resources to issues related to elections, cybersecurity, gender equity, disability rights, and more. In other roles, she has offered leadership to issues that include national security, climate, race and gender equity, economic growth and opportunity, civic participation, and health care.

Michele is a regular commentator for international and US television, print, and radio, an author, a serial entrepreneur, and an afro-tech futurist. She has served as a Board member at such distinctive and impactful organizations as Higher Heights for America and In Our Own Voice. As she does all of this work, she also mentors the women around her and create pathways for others to follow. Michele has been described as someone who believes that we can create and build the future we desire across our differences. We are grateful to her for her tireless work and outstanding contributions to do just that.

Please join us as we honor Michele Lawrence Jawando and all she has done to make the world a better place. We will also recognize Altria as our Partner of the Year, hear stories from women who have transformed their lives through Calvary’s programs and look at how Calvary Women’s Services is increasing its impact through generous support from our funders.

Support the Hope Awards Dinner by purchasing tickets or making a donation to continue our services to help women in Washington, DC end their homelessness for good.
