Soul Centering at Calvary
This past Friday, women at Calvary took part in a fun and inspiring celebration of music, poetry, dance, and self-reflection. The event was the culmination of the Soul Centering sessions that Calvary volunteer Rev. Dr. Janaé Moore offered through our Life Skills, Education, and Arts Program (LEAP).
The Soul Centering sessions officially kicked off on January 18th and weekly classes continued every Friday through the end of February. The six-session group provided an opportunity for women to learn relaxation and stress-management techniques while examining and reflecting on their own individual spirituality. A small group of 8-10 women attended each session.
During Friday’s celebration, four Calvary residents who completed the Soul Centering program shared their self-written poetry and received certificates and gifts recognizing their participation and contributions to the Soul Centering group.
A pair of fantastic musicians played at the celebration and accompanied Janaé’s poetry reading. Kim, a local dancer, also shared her talents by interpreting a poem through dance at the celebration. The event closed with the rest of the Calvary community joining in on the “music and movement” too, and dancing in Calvary’s LEAP Center.
We are so thankful to Janaé for holding this inspiring series of classes and we’re also grateful to the terrific musical and dance accompanists for their participation in putting on this uplifting afternoon event for women at Calvary!
