School’s Out for Summer!

Sunscreen?  Check.  Flip flops?  Check. Volunteering at Calvary?  Check!

I’ve used my last few opportunities to write for our blog to boast about our fabulous Calvary volunteers—and I just can’t seem to run out of good things to say!   Here at Calvary, spring has ushered in a slew of volunteer activity, including our Mother’s Day Drive, Volunteer Appreciation Event, and Hope Awards Dinner.  Oh, and about 25 new volunteers in the months of April and May alone!

Teams of Calvary volunteers are tackling events left and right!  Our successful Mother’s Day drive was headed up by a group of five volunteers, both new and veteran, who came together to make sure all of the women living at Calvary had a wonderful Mother’s Day.  The Drive also brought in

much needed wish list items, such as toiletries, sheet sets, pajamas, gift cards and movie passes.

If you’re an avid reader of Calvary Comments, you know that last month, we also held our annual Hope Awards Dinner, a fundraiser that honors people in our community who offer hope and empowerment to women in need.  Throughout the evening, a team of 12 volunteers worked feverishly, side by side with Calvary staff, to ensure that the event was a success (and it was—the night raised over $110,000 in support of Calvary’s programs and services!)

It is clear that our volunteers are not only rock stars, but extremely vital to our programs.  So, how do you say “thank you” to a group that continues to give their time and dedication freely? June 1st was the official start date of our Summer Volunteer Program, designed to encourage and reward our summer volunteers.  While many, if not all, of our volunteers only ask for a simple “thank you”, we feel this is the perfect act of affirmation for all they do.  The program will run through September 1st,  and will include prizes from local businesses such as Clyde’s, Zola, and the Round House Theater.  Want to get involved?

Every time you volunteer with us, your name will be entered in that month’s drawing—the more you volunteer, the better your chances are to win one of our great prizes!

If you’re interested in volunteering and would like more information, or if you are a veteran Calvary volunteer and would like add your name to our summer calendars, please contact Catherine at cbisson@calvaryservices.org

As always, “THANK YOU,” volunteers, for your continued support of Calvary!!
