Hope is the belief that she will achieve

Hope is holy.

Hope is a desire.

Hope is wisdom for poor people.

Hope expresses faith in a better future.

Hope is in her horizon.

Hope is not beyond her reach.

Hope is the belief that she will achieve.

For nine years Calvary Women’s Services has been honoring the spirit of hope at our annual Hope Awards Dinner.  The event recognizes members of the community who have nurtured hope in others, especially those in need.

Past Hope Awards honorees include such local heroes as Sheila C. Johnson, Diane Rehm, Gwen Ifill, Cathy Lanier, Michel Martin, Linda Rabbitt and Jane Holmes Dixon.

This year we are excited to honor Phyllis Caldwell, who is currently the Chief of the Office of Homeownership Preservation and who is the past president of the Washington Area Women’s Foundation.  Greta Kreuz of ABC7/WJLA-TV will host the event.  Women who have graduated from Calvary’s programs will also share their own stories of hope.

It’s an inspirational event – not the usual DC rubber chicken dinner.  The centerpieces for the tables and the awards that are given out are handmade by women at Calvary’s programs.  Past honorees come back and mingle with guests.  With all of the stories of hope and the positive feelings in the room, everyone walks out with his or her chin held high.

This year, I hope you’ll join us.

So here are the details:

When: Tuesday, May 18, 6:00 to 9:00 PM

Where:  Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center

1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

Tickets are $250, which gets you into the cocktail reception, silent auction and dinner.  The money we raise will support Calvary’s programs, supporting women as they work to move out of homelessness.

And the silent auction is offering such items as a private helicopter tour of Northern Virginia with dinner for four at the Ashby Inn in Middleburg OR an incredible Red Sox fan package that includes box seats at Fenway and travel to and accommodations in Boston.  Honestly, how could you pass that up?

Learn more here or buy tickets.

Hope to see you there!
